Coyote Hunt

Well, Matt and  some friends went out for coyote during the annual NEPA coyote hunt sponsored by the District 9 Trappers .  While they didn’t get a coyote this year they did see them.  When predator hunting there is a big difference between seeing one and getting a shot at one.  After staking out some dens for several hours they decided to leave after it got dark.  As they were walking out they saw a coyote appear but it was already too dark for a clear shot.

The bitter cold this weekend put a damper on my plans for some Saturday goose hunting.  I hope to try again this week for these resident geese.  If your going out….good luck and stay warm.

Solo Goose Hunt

I went out this afternoon after work to try and score on some honkers that I have been seeing in the afternoons on their way back to the roost.  I set up 12 decoys in the field and settled in along a creek bed near some bushes for cover.  The wind started to pick up and the snow started flying and I was glad I was below ground level near the creek as it kept me out of the worst of the wind.

Decoys in the field

It was rapidly approaching the time when I usually see the geese and still no action.  Ten minutes of legal light left and the wind really picked up and temperature dropped a good 10 degrees.  I decided to get packing and collected up my decoys and headed for the car.  In the 10 minutes it took to get everything back to the car my fingers and face went numb from the cold and wind.

No geese today but I enjoyed my time afield and plan on going again.
